Things-are-happening-for-me-not-to-me

Hi everyone, today’s tip and topic are centered around the concept that things are happening for me, not to me. Whatever situation you’re currently facing is on the way, not in the way. Why? Because sometimes, events occur, and we may feel they are unfair or shouldn’t be happening. In that mindset, resistance sets in, closing down our frontal cortex and preventing us from accessing ideas that could help in the situation.

I often ask my clients, when they present a drama or catastrophe, how the situation is serving them and what benefits they might derive from it. Initially, they may assert that there are no benefits, but upon delving a little deeper, we explore the learning opportunities within the situation. Instead of reacting, I encourage them to respond differently internally, opening up their perception.

Having a codependency coach or mentor is crucial in such desperate situations. They can guide you, stretch your perception, and help you see things differently. Taking actions with the guidance of a mentor, especially through brainstorming sessions, opens us to new ideas and information. This approach shifts us away from victimhood – things are happening for me, not to me – and keeps our perception open to possibilities.

Remember, what comes into your life is on the way, not in the way. It’s our perception and how we deal with it that matters. Having a coach or mentor is essential to call you on things, open up your perception, and settle your autonomic nervous system when emotions are heightened. Emotions are within us, and the path to healing involves self-soothing and approaching things differently, step by step. This journey is a path of discovery in recovery. Thank you.
