Referred to by clients and industry peers as a “practical, workable recovery guide”, Recover from codependency is a codependency help book with a difference.
Written for the person committed to making real and lasting change in their life, Recover from codependency provides the reader with an understanding of exactly what codependency is and how it impacts every aspect of life.
With this first book, Roslyn makes recovery a reality for those affected by codependency in all areas of life. Using her own personal experience of codependency as the basis for understanding, Recover from codependency, challenges us to reflect on the origins of the destructive patterns which set us up for living in codependency. Roslyn balances this understanding with the resilience and sensitivity required to work through each area of life to make meaningful, sustainable change to empower the reader to live a healthier and happier life.
Recover from codependency book is written as a practical working guide that covers:
- How to recognise and manage codependency behaviours
- Relationship aspects of codependency, including relationship addiction, as well as relationships with family, work colleagues, and friends
- Resources and tools to navigate life in more empowered, healthy ways
- Self-partnering and how to establish an intimate relationship with the Self to lead a life of joy and fulfilment
- Mental and emotional aspects of codependency, including understanding the ‘codependent crazies’ and how to manage and overcome these
- The ways that codependency manifests physically, showing the connection between our biography and biology
- Financial and vocational elements of codependency and how we cripple ourselves in these important life areas.

About Roslyn Saunders
Roslyn Saunders is a codependency counsellor and author of Recover from codependency: Sustainable steps to heal the addiction that screams the loudest and is least understood.
“Although I want this book to be a reference for others, I found that writing it – and referring to it – is one of the best ways to keep myself on track. Maintaining my own emotional sobriety is my highest priority because I know how lethal codependency can be. Through my own experience, I know that awareness of the condition is limited and it’s my hope that Recover from codependency helps to change that – and the lives of the people who read it.”
Roslyn Saunders why behind the book
“The number one reason I’ve written this book is for my own healing and sobriety. Although this may sound selfish, having a reference like Recover from codependency is the best way I know to keep myself emotionally sober on my own codependency recovery journey. And maintaining my own emotional sobriety is my number one priority. I made this decision because I KNOW the condition of codependency can kill if it is not addressed.
If you’re reading this, then you must have at least a little willingness to look honestly at the codependency in your life. For this reason, I ask you to make your recovery from codependency your highest priority because here’s what I know about it.
Codependency undermines all relationships. This is because we have not formed a healthy relationship with ourselves first –an element that is essential for forging any other healthy relationship.
It destroys our self-esteem and self-confidence as we strive to be liked by others and refrain from “rocking the boat” in our personal and work relationships.
Our codependent nature keeps us returning to food, alcohol, nicotine, workaholic ways and drugs. Codependency keeps us entwined and returning to unhealthy love relationships, friendships, and even family members.
As difficult as it may be to comprehend, in that state, we are no different to a heroin addict living on the streets. We stare at them in dismay, wondering how they can live like that. We think, “Surely, there’s something they can do to help themselves.” Living in full blown codependency, you might be existing, but you’re not truly living. If you have trouble coming to terms with the analogy of a heroin addict, let me present it to you in another way. Codependence kills our every day. We lose the opportunity to be in our life, in our day, each day, because like any addiction, it takes us over.
We simply cannot function in a way that is healthy, fulfilling or joyful. In many ways, we are just not there, and end up living outside our life and in doing so, we totally miss it. If you can relate to this, don’t feel you’re alone. Codependency is a condition that is far more common than you think. So common in fact, that I often refer to it as an epidemic.
So, back to my why. With Recover from codependency book, I wanted to create a resource that distils my experience and knowledge to help others wanting to recover from, and live life beyond, codependency.
If you’ve struggled with codependency and feel there must be more to life, this book will help you take steps in the direction of sustainable recovery if you follow the guidance, do the work, and stay the course. If you area parent, caregiver, or family member who is looking for answers to help someone living in addiction, this book will help you understand the dynamics of codependency as it relates to addiction, including that codependency is not a solo sport.”
