Hi, I’m Roslyn Saunders, a codependency recovery coach on a mission to lead a global movement and raise awareness about the root cause of all addiction—codependency. In this video, I want to talk to you about boundaries during holidays and times of celebration. It’s very easy to let go of our boundaries and slip, but it’s wise to be prepared.

The answer is simple, but simple doesn’t always mean easy—we need to slow down. One useful way to do this is to take just 15 minutes, grab yourself a pen and paper, and start by thinking about previous Christmases or any time in your life where you felt out of control, stressed, overwhelmed, or even desperate. Think of a few boundaries to alleviate these feelings.

For example, consider budgeting for Christmas to avoid going into debt on a credit card. Think carefully about presents—do you really need to buy as much? Discuss contributions for food with family or friends to avoid waste. Set clear boundaries around alcohol use, and manage time with people respectfully, doing only what is emotionally manageable for you.

Make notes to help stick to your boundaries.
